The Most Instagrammable Spots on Lombok & Gili
Lombok Island – Besides the beautiful beaches, there are actually quite a lot of other instagrammable spots in Lombok.
We’ve put together a list of the best places to get your Instagram photos in Lombok. Time to get snapping!
East Lombok
The east of Lombok is still an undiscovered and off the beaten track part of the island. Here you can also find some Gili islands that belong to the most unknown around Lombok: Gili Kondo, Gili Bidara, Gili Kapal and Gili Lampu.
If you wanna have some paradise feeling without much tourism on Lombok, you definitely should visit these islands. Especially when you’re looking for nice snorkelling spots with colourful corals (that are still alive) and fish. In particular, Gili Kapal is our favourite: the tiniest island ever, only consisting. For sure, the highlight your Lombok island tour!
Pusuk Monkey Forest
Pusuk Monkey Forest is an area of natural beauty that lies in the forest surrounding Mt Rinjani. The verdant hills are filled with troupes of long-tailed macaques, that, while friendly, still want to get their hands on your food and sunglasses! The best way to explore the Pusuk Monkey Forest is by moped or on foot so you really have a chance to roam the roads, stopping off whenever you like to take photos with your new furry friends.
Tiu Kelep Waterfall
Waterfalls are yet another thing that Lombok does well! Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile Waterfalls are located in Senaru, close to Mount Rinjani meaning you don’t just have to wait around in an empty town before embarking for your trek. Start your adventure with mini hikes to these waterfalls, waking early to catch the sunrise en route before stopping to enjoy both of these stunning waterfalls in their own right. Both waterfalls are somewhat signposted from the road but there are a few river crossings to get to Tiu Kelep so you may want to take a guide with you for added security (although this is totally not obligatory whatever the locals might tell you!).
Mt Rinjani Crater Lake
Another spectacularly Instagram-friendly spot on Lombok
Mount Rinjani is probably the highlight of any trip to Lombok. Standing at 3,726m, Mt Rinjani is a mammoth volcano in the north of the island that looms over the whole island. Travelers are able to hike up and even stay on the mountain overnight which makes for an exciting opportunity. Still active – with its most recent eruption in 2010 – Rinjani offers intrepid travelers a chance to test their hiking prowess with a grueling trek over two or three days up to the crater lake or summit. However, the blood, sweat, and tears (that will no doubt be a part of the hike) will all be worth it when you see the Instagram-perfect crater lake!
The famous Gili Swings
Baby blue ocean, never-ending beaches, grand views of Lombok’s mountains, when it comes to the rule of thirds, the Gili Islands are a template that novice photographers can’t go wrong with. Your Instagram feed is full of them, and of course, you want to go and get a sunset swing shot of your own! Well, the Gili’s are full of them, especially on Gili Trawangan. You can’t walk far along a beach before you stumble upon one, so grab your camera and get ready!
