Sun, Sand & Sea – The Gili Islands

25 January 2023

The three Gili islands are known around the world as a little piece of heaven. The environment is so rich in nature, that walking or biking around these islands gives you a sense of serenity that is not easily acquired in this modern world. There are so many incredible things to do at Gili!

1. FIND NEMO
Snorkeling is the best thing to do on the Gili Islands. The islands are surrounded by idyllic azure coloured waters which make snorkeling and scuba diving one of the best things to do. Underwater enthusiasts will find a plethora of tropical fish and brightly coloured corals within the numerous offshore reefs to explore. Divers will be pleased with top dive spots like Manta Point filled with large manta rays and Shark Point which is perfect for diving among black tip sharks.

Snorkelers will marvel at the beautiful underwater delights at Simon’s Reef as well as almost any offshore spots of the islands. Near Gili Meno and particularly right in front of Bagno Di Gili, exclusive Beach area of The Lombok Lodge Hospitality, you can go swimming with the turtles at Turtle Point. Gili Trawangan boasts Wreck Point at Mentigi Beach where divers will be fascinated exploring a sunken WWII vessel.

2. EXPLORE THE ISLAND
The islands sports a laidback attitude and exploring the islands on foot or, for some areas, by bike is easy. It will only take about one hour to walk around Gili Meno and enjoy its full beauty. Bicycle rentals are plentiful available on Gili Trawangan and are the preferred mode of transportation on Gili T. If you choose to walk around the island, and you get tired of walking, you can simply hire one of the cimodos — a horse drawn carriage to take you back to your spot on the island. Motorized travel of all types is outlawed on the 3 islands.

3. GO ISLAND HOPPING
All three islands are a must see while you are in the region. The smallest of the islands is Gili Meno where you will find the Turtle Sanctuary, where rescued baby turtles are raised and released on one of the old beaches. There is also the Gili Meno Bird Park which is home to peacocks, pelicans, raptors, parrots and pheasants. Gili Air is ideal for kitesurfing and stand-up paddleboarding with wide secluded beaches and wonderfully calm waters. Gili Trawangan is the largest of the three islands.

4. GO SEA KAYAKING
At all three islands, it is easy to find places that hire kayaks. One hour of Kayak Rental is including in the Bagno Di Gili Day-Passes.

5. GO SURFING
There is a fast right reef break off the southern coast of Gili Trawangan. You can rent surf boards at Surf Bar opposite the break by the hour or day. Surf lessons are available.
