Mount Rinjani Reopens | What to Know for 2026 Treks

Rinjani Trekking Returns!
Your Ultimate Lombok Adventure Awaits.

Why Mount Rinjani Is One of Indonesia’s Best Treks

Mount Rinjani, the second-largest volcano in Indonesia, is a must-visit destination for adventure seekers. With its breathtaking views, lush forests, and cascading waterfalls, Rinjani Lombok offers an unparalleled trekking experience.

One of the highlights of Rinjani is Segara Anak Lake, a stunning crescent-shaped lake located within the crater. This sulfuric lake sits 600 meters below the crater rim and spans approximately 6 km across at its widest point. Rising from the lake is Mount Baru, a small yet active volcano formed by eruptions in the 1990s.

Segara Anak holds deep spiritual meaning for local communities. Each year, the Balinese perform the Pekelan Ceremony, offering jewelry to the mountain spirit. Likewise, the Wetu Telu people gather to pray on full moon nights, embracing the sacred atmosphere of this natural wonder.

Rinjani Trek Difficulty: What to Expect

A CHALLENGE WORTH TAKING

The Lombok Rinjani Trek is not for the faint-hearted. It requires endurance, proper trekking equipment, and a spirit for adventure. Three key insights to know:

  • Steep & slippery trails
  • Unpredictable weather (storms, strong winds, and frosty nights
  • Intense sun exposure during the day

Proper preparation is key to a successful trek. Ensuring you have warm clothing, windproof gear, and a reliable guide will make your experience safer and more enjoyable.

Safety on Mount Rinjani: Volcanic and Weather Conditions

While Mount Rinjani itself has remained stable in recent years, Mount Baru within the crater remains active. The last major eruption occurred in 1994. Before trekking, always:

  • Check official park advisories
  • Follow ranger instructions
  • Rely on experienced local guides
  • Monitor weather conditions closely

Safety awareness is a key part of the Rinjani trekking experience.

Essential Information for Your Rinjani Trek

#FRESHWATER SOURCES & CAMPSITES

Natural freshwater springs are available along the Rinjani trek. However, during July–September, some of these water sources may dry up. Park rangers and guides constantly monitor water availability to ensure trekkers have access to clean drinking water.

#RINJANI NATIONAL PARK FEES

Park fees are included in The Lombok Lodge Rinjani Adventure Package. These fees contribute to the conservation and maintenance of Rinjani National Park, Trekking routes, Village attractions & visitor facilities and Professional Guides & Porters

At The Lombok Lodge, we collaborate exclusively with licensed mountain guides and experienced porters from the villages surrounding Rinjani National Park. Their expertise ensures a smooth and enjoyable trekking experience.

#PHONE COVERAGE & COMMUNICATION

While GSM coverage extends to most areas of Rinjani, not all providers offer strong signals. Pro XL is recommended for the best connectivity. Most guides carry mobile phones for communication.
