With this blog ‘Les Amis du Maison’ or ‘Friends of the House’, I would like to represent the warm, welcoming spirit of The Lombok Lodge Hospitality, where guests are treated like friends and served the best of what the house has to offer. GAJA is a world famous winery situated in Piemonte in the Northwestern part of Italy. Established in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja in the small town of Barbaresco, the estate began with merely 2 Ha of vineyards, planted in the hills near Barbaresco.
Each generation expanded the estate. However Angelo Gaja (5th generation), who became the proprietor in 1970 (but already started to work in the vineyards since 1961) achieved the most recent success. In 1988, Angelo Gaja purchased 28 Ha of land in the nearby town of Barolo and began producing another single vineyard wine “Sperrs”, which was first released in 1992. He also decided to plant Chardonnay grapes Treiso (Gaia & Rey) and Sauvignon blanc (Alteni di Brassica) in Barbaresco. Further expansions led to Tuscany with acquisitions in Brunello di Montalcino (Pieve Santa Restituta, in 1994) and Bolgheri (Ca’Marcanda, in 1996). Currently, the Gaja Winery owns 250 acres of vineyards in Piedmont, located in the Barbaresco district (Barbaresco and Treiso) and the Barolo district (Serralunga d’Alba and La Morra). Since its inception, the Gaja Winery has continuously evolved in ways that have always focused on meticulous care of and attention to the quality of its wines. Nowadays Gaja produces over 40 different red and white wines, including Eau de Vie (Grappa). The wines which command the highest prices (and ratings) are the single vineyard Barbaresco wines. Top vintages are: 1989, 1990, 1997, 1999, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2011 and 2013
FORMICA ALTA – EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL BY ‘CARMA’
CARMA is an organic permaculture project established in 2000 in the valley of Civita di Bagnoregio. The company was created initially by Giulio di Gropello and Gianluca Pizzo who purchased the first abandoned plot of land with 600 olive trees, Giovanni Bulgari joined in 2008. The common trait of Giulio, Gianluca and Giovanni was that they all love nature and that they are the most passionate consumers of their products.
The mission of the 3 G’s – Giulio, Gianluca and Giovanni – is to produce excellence – ‘ . . Excellence is not an Accident … #HorzSchultze #TheLombokLodge – and to preserve nature. Today ‘Carma’ nurtures 7,000 olive trees and 80 hectares of cropland in three different regions: Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany, that compose their ‘Olive Oil Triangle’ Logo.

The products of ‘Tenuta Di Carma’ are the result of their philosophy: Carma Estate is among the 100 best oil producers in Italy – Atlante degli Oli Italiani -, among the 300 best producers in the world -Flos Olei Guide – and among the few who obtained the highest score in the guide Gambero Rosso Oli d’Italia.

ATELIER LUCAS | LUC DEVRIESE
Luc Devriese, incredibly eager and driven, completed internships with the best pastry chefs both nationally and internationally.
In 1988, Luc felt it was time to venture out on his own and started his own bakery – ‘Lucas Knokke’ – located at the corner of Lippenslaan and Kustlaan in Knokke, Belgian Coast. Over the course of 23 years, this establishment grew into a highly renowned top-tier business. Always eager to explore new horizons, in 2012, the business was relocated to its current location under the name ‘Atelier-Lucas’.
From there, he continues to lead this thriving enterprise, together with Yoko and their dedicated team of employees, with the same enthusiasm as in the beginning. Luc is the maverick with an incredible passion and dedication to his craft of ‘bread and pastry.’ With utmost respect for the product, they work with ‘moment-fresh’ ingredients. This approach forms the foundation for the quality of flavor and ensures that products from Atelier-Lucas always look their best. As a flagship product, Luc developed the rustic line, a range of bread made from stone-ground flour, resulting in a fantastic bread with an unparalleled crispy crust, airy crumb, and exceptionally rich flavor.
Chef Jiwa and his kitchen team had the privilege of being trained by Mr. Luc Devriese September 2023. We proudly share with you proabably the best home made croissants and pastries of the island.
